This is a large dog breed commonly used as a livestock guardian dog. The Great Pyrenees should not be confused with the Pyrenees Mastiff breed. In 1874 this breed was not standardized and recognized as two types: Eastern and Western.

This is a beautiful white fur breed sometimes having red, grey, or brown spots. This unique appearance gives them a bear look, they are such a cute species. They have distinct double dewclaws on their rear legs. They help them to grip when jumping, running, or climbing.

Grooming Tips

Grooming your pet is mandatory to produce more tolerant adults. Grooming the Pyrenees is a little easy than any other dog breed. Their beautiful white fur looks like it takes hours of care but the reality is quite different. They are pretty easy to groom but keep in mind a few tricks and tips for taking care of their ears, eyes, nails, teeth, and coat so it will be easy for you to groom your dog.

It is not difficult to groom your puppy but grooming on time is necessary. Grooming will be easier if started at an early stage.

Here we are sharing some useful tips for grooming your Great Pyrenees.

1. Take Care Of Their Eyes

Sometimes your Pyrenees puppy may have weepy eyes with red discharge that may stain their coat. If it leaves a stain on your pet, clean it with a dog tear remover. Keep cleaning with it until it is a fairly white fur coat. Clean their eyes twice a week and if you notice any redness or infection, let them examine by a vet. If you see any fluid releasing from the eye, do not take it lightly go to the vet instantly.

2. Take Care Of Their Teeth

To keep their teeth clean and white, brush your puppy’s teeth. Like human teeth, their teeth also require proper care and cleansing. So in a month take out the dog brush with meat-flavored toothpaste and start scrubbing their teeth. If there is a lot of yellow on the teeth or gums, you need to see a vet for a teeth examination. Also, clean their toothbrush after brushing their teeth.

3. Take Care Of Their Fur

The great Pyrenees do not require a lot of fur grooming. They mostly blow their coat once a year. Brushing their fur once a month is enough. Remove all the burrs or offensive things once a month by brushing. The main reason for this is they shed less than any other breeds that’s why do not need frequent brushing. You can use Herzko self-cleaning slipper brush mentioned below. They also require little bathing like once a month. Keep their coat neat and clean.

4. Take Care Of Their Ears

Yes, taking proper care of their ears is mandatory. Wash their ears thoroughly during baths once a month to avoid all kinds of ear infections. Use an ear cleaner solution to remove all the ear wax and for a pleasant odor. Just take a small amount of ear rinse on a cotton bowl and wipe around your puppy’s ear. But be careful not to go deep into their war canal. If you notice foul odor while cleaning their ears it may be because of mites or they may be suffering through some ear infections. Here you need to see a vet instantly.

5. Take Care Of Their Nails

It is very important to care for our puppy’s nails. If they are too long then cut them with a Dremel. You do not need to worry about their nails just trim them when they are about to touch the ground when your dog walks. When it is clicking or snagging on the ground while your puppy runs or walks it is time to time for their nails. Long nails can harm you or your family so cut them down on the time.

Grooming Tools

The great Pyrenees do not require a lot of grooming. They have thick coats and shed once a year. If you are using the wrong tools great Pyrenees grooming will be very tough for you. Here we are describing the top 5 tools that are useful in your pup’s grooming.

These were the basic 5 tools every Great Pyrenees owner should have to avoid any difficulty in their grooming.

1. Poster Grooming Rake

A poster grooming rake is one of the most useful tools in grooming your dog. We have used so many tools for them but this is the only one that gets deep into their coat without cutting their fur. But the only complaining thing about them is that the handle of the poster grooming rake is not comfortable. To avoid this problem you can wrap the tape around the handle to make it easy.

Many people use a FURminator on Great Pyrenees but we will not suggest this because it damages their fur.

2. The Stuff Dog Conditioner

If you are worried about keeping your puppy so white. Do not worry we are giving you the best solution. The staff will keep your puppy neat and clean. You can use it wet or dry, it will remove all the dirt, mats, and tangles from their body. It will also add shine and sickness to their white coat. It can work for all the puppies including Mauja, Kiska, and Atka having slightly different breeds. The great Pyrenees have slightly different coats than other breeds, some are allergic too but The Stuff will not bother them.

3. Dremel

Pick the real Dremel, not the pet Dremel because the pet Dremel is unable to shorten the Kiska’s five-month puppy nails. Cut the nails of your puppy with a real Dremel. It is important to cut their nails on time. Use it for a better experience. If you are using a Dremel for the first time on your dog then take it slow. Do not worry about them flinching and kicking their quick. It will help them to slowly get quick back if it is gotten too long-ended. Always keep stupid powder with you just in case for getting quick.

4. Hertzko Self Cleaning Slicker Brush

There are a lot of slicker brushes in the market but we will suggest Herzko self-cleaning flicker brush because it is best for grooming Great Pyrenees. It goes deep into the coat and removes any remaining loose fur and helps in smoothing the coat.

This is simple and easy to use. Hertzko is best because it is self-cleaning. Just simply push the button, and the bristles will retract and remove all the unwanted fur from the coat. Hertzko’s self-cleaning slicker brush has a very comfortable ergonomic handle.

5. Oster A5 Animal Grooming Clipper

It is very difficult to trim their crunch feet with grooming scissors. It just looks like they are having bowl cuts on their feet. That is not a cute look. Poster A5 animal grooming clipper is the best tool for their feet grooming without leaving a horrible haircut. All pups even Mauja can develop mats on them.  They help remove all this stuff from all the pups. Poster A5 grooming clipper is the best of all the clippers.

Conclusion
